Have you recently noticed that your energy levels are lower than usual? If you observed that when you go home from work, you instantly drop down on the couch or the bed after your shift, then you need to do something.
Here are some probable reasons why nurses or even other working individuals have low energy levels at the end of the day:
- Staying in bed longer You may be thinking that if you sleep in, you can feel more relaxed and ready for the day. But according to Harvard Health Publishing, it turns out that getting too little or too much sleep increases fatigue.
Why is this so? Our body follows a circadian rhythm. It is our biological clock that programs our body to be awake at this hour and asleep on this time of the day. In order to boost the effectiveness of your circadian rhythm, get at least 30 minutes of sunlight. You can do this by taking a walk outside before breakfast or before you head to work.
- Drinking coffee first thing in the morning It is so tempting to grab a cup of coffee in the morning to keep yourself from unintentionally catching a wink while going to work. We can even see our fellow nurses or colleagues sipping their coffee as soon as they arrive. Are you also guilty of doing it?
According to experts , having a cup of coffee first thing in the morning may make you drowsy. Instead of drinking coffee in the morning, drink water in order to rehydrate yourself. You have been sleeping for hours, therefore, you must replenish your body fluid.
- Skipping meals There are many reasons why people choose or unintentionally chose to skip a meal. You may have a colleague who is drowning himself or herself with work. It may have been your friend who is so obsessed with losing weight. It can even be you who forgot to eat because of rushing to work this morning. Once you skip your meal, you run low on your needed nutrients. If you lack these nutrients, you become tired, therefore, keeping you from doing your other responsibilities.
Fellow nurses, our patients need our Skilled Nursing Services. We need to take care of our body not only for our patients but also for ourselves and our family.
Caring Nurses Services, a Home Care Agency in Edgewood MD, believes that if you want to do well in serving your patients, you need to be full of vigor and be ready to face anything that can come your way.
That is why when you think you are feeling drowsy every time, evaluate yourself and don’t forget to ask your physician about the cause.
